Ancient Diocese of Laureacum

The former Catholic diocese of Laureacum (Lorch) existed in the fifth century, in what is now northern Austria. The diocese was then abandoned for two centuries, in the face of pagan invasions.[1] Lorch is near modern Linz. When it was set up, Laureacum was in the Roman Province of Noricum Ripense.[2] Maximilian of Lorch is said to have been bishop of Laureacum.[3]

Subsequently the diocese of Passau was set up, with a nearby see.[4]
